The Open Network Foundation has launched TON Pay, a new software development kit designed to allow Telegram Mini Apps to accept Toncoin and stablecoins through a single checkout flow. The product aims to position TON as a payment rail inside Telegram, which reports more than 1.1 billion monthly active users.

According to information shared with Cointelegraph, TON Pay works as a wallet-agnostic payment layer. Merchants and developers can integrate payments directly into Mini Apps without building or managing complex wallet systems. As a result, checkout flows remain simple and operate inside the Telegram interface. The Foundation presents the SDK as a practical tool for daily transactions rather than a niche crypto feature.

TON Foundation vice president of payments Nikola Plecas explained that the SDK allows merchants to accept payments “seamlessly and natively on TON” through a single integration. The system supports multiple wallets and tokens, including Toncoin (TON) and Tether’s USDt (USDT). Transactions target sub-second confirmation times, while average fees remain below one cent. Therefore, the infrastructure seeks to operate at a scale suitable for mass consumer use.


By embedding payments into Telegram, TON Pay reduces barriers that often slow crypto adoption. Users no longer need multi-step checkouts, manual gas management, or external payment pages. Instead, transactions occur inside apps people already use every day. In that sense, the payment layer acts like a quiet engine under the hood rather than a complex financial tool.

However, the Foundation plans to extend support to web environments and other platforms over time. Future updates aim to add subscriptions, gas-free payments, and local off-ramps. In parallel, the team plans to work with regional providers for custody, compliance, and fiat conversion services.

TON Pay enters a market where large platforms race to combine messaging and payments. X has announced plans for X Money, while Coinbase rebranded Coinbase Wallet into the Base app, blending payments, social features, and onchain apps.

Against this backdrop, TON continues to face skepticism linked to its close relationship with Telegram. The Foundation maintains that TON remains open and permissionless, while merchants using TON Pay must follow Telegram’s platform rules as the product expands.
