Conclusion of the Investigation Committee

The Argentine Chamber of Deputies Libra case investigation committee submitted its final report after three months of investigation, concluding that President Javier Milei provided what was deemed “necessary assistance” in a fraud scheme involving cryptocurrency.

According to the report, the president's promotion of the cryptocurrency Libra ($LIBRA), including the pinned post published on its verified account, has driven an increase in purchase volume and led to the subsequent collapse of the asset, an event described as similar to a rug pull.

The committee claims that Milei has never explained how he obtained the contract number for the cryptocurrency—this data was not public—and that he did not consult any technical department of the government before promoting it. Former Cabinet Chief Guillermo Francos confirmed that no official analysis had been conducted previously.

Blockchain Evidence and Financial Flows

The investigation, which included blockchain analysis, found a consistent financial flow between operators related to the Libra project and the launch of the digital currency KIP, which was also promoted by Milei months ago. For the congressmen, this constitutes a behavior pattern aimed at “monetizing the presidential image” and avoiding national control mechanisms.

According to the committee, Libra caused significant losses: 114,410 wallets suffered losses, including 498 investors who each lost over 100,000 USD. On the other hand, 36 wallets had earnings exceeding 1,000,000 USD.

The Impeachment Prospects Are Dim

Despite the harsh conclusions of the investigation, the opposition acknowledges that it is difficult to secure enough votes to advance the impeachment process. Milei's camp has been strengthened after the election and should have a sufficient majority in the committee and one-third of the plenary session—this is the number needed to block any attempts at accountability.

In June of this year, the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) of the Argentine Ministry of Justice concluded that President Javier Milei did not violate the country's public ethics law while promoting the cryptocurrency Libra in February.

According to the agency, Milei is acting in a personal capacity and has not reached the level of official government activities or asset recognition.

Survey Process

In September, the Argentine Chamber of Deputies passed the “LIBRA Cryptocurrency Special Investigation Committee” and summoned President Milei's sister Karina Milei and suspicious allies, as well as Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson as witnesses. Milei can respond in writing.

In Hoskinson's case, he was subpoenaed for comments made in February, when he claimed that someone at an event asked him for funding to help him meet with the President of Argentina.

At the beginning of this month, a judge ordered the freezing of assets related to the scandal after investigators discovered that Hayden Davis, the CEO of Kelsier Ventures, may have made “indirect payments to public officials.”
