Gate Vault: Next-generation cryptocurrency asset security custody solution based on MPC technology
Global leading cryptocurrency asset trading platform Gate officially launches a new security product—Gate Vault—based on Multi-Party Computation (MPC) technology. This multi-chain wallet’s core is to fundamentally change the traditional model of digital asset custody: private keys can complete transaction signing securely without ever fully appearing.
MPC technology splits the complete private key into multiple encrypted “key shares” and distributes them across different nodes.
01 Security Revolution: Say Goodbye to Single Point of Failure Private Key Management
In traditional crypto wallets, the leakage or loss of a complete private key means permanent asset loss. This has been a long-standing “single point of failure” risk in the industry.
According to security reports, in all blockchain security incidents over the years, 62.3% of losses were caused by private key leaks. The MPC technology introduced by Gate Vault aims to fundamentally solve this problem.
Its technical principle is to split a private key into three independent key shares. These three shares are encrypted and stored separately on: the user’s local device, Gate servers, and an independent third-party service provider.
02 Four-layer Architecture: Building a Fortified Defense System
Gate Vault is not a single technology but a systematic security solution composed of four core mechanisms, each targeting a key security pain point.
First is a more robust security architecture. Using three-party distributed storage ensures that even if a single node is attacked, the attacker cannot obtain the full key. This design effectively defends against single-point attacks on servers or user devices.
Second is purer asset control. Vault employs a 2-of-3 signature mechanism. This means that the platform and third-party service providers only hold parts of the shares; no single party can initiate a transaction alone.
Funds can only be transferred out if initiated by the user on their device and authorized with at least one other key share.
The third layer offers a more reassuring delayed transaction protection feature. This pioneering risk control function enforces a 48-hour delay period for any fund transfer initiated via Gate Vault.
During this period, users can “freeze” the transfer operation at any time within the app. This provides ample security buffer against device loss, hacking, or accidental operations.
Finally, a global disaster recovery mechanism is in place. Even in extreme scenarios such as platform service outages, users’ assets remain protected. Users can utilize local device shares and shares stored with independent third-party service providers, collaborating with open-source tools to restore and generate the full private key, thereby recovering assets.
03 Practical Guide: The Complete Process from Activation to Recovery
After understanding its powerful principles, how can users practically use Gate Vault? The process is clear and convenient.
Activation and Access: Currently, Gate Vault is temporarily available free of charge for VIP3 and above users. Users can find the Vault activation entry on the latest Gate App’s “Assets - Overview” page.
Fund Transfer and Fees: Users can transfer funds from their Gate account or directly from the blockchain into the vault, with no transfer fees. When transferring funds out of the vault to your Gate account, a 0.1% service fee applies to maintain the security and risk control system, with a maximum of $100 per transaction.
Backup and Recovery: To handle device replacement, Vault supports backing up local device shares to the cloud or generating encrypted QR codes.
If backups are unavailable, users can also recover the vault through collaboration with third-party service providers via Gate, involving real-name verification on both sides to ensure security. Most importantly, even if Gate services are unavailable, users can still recover assets independently through third-party providers.
04 Ecosystem Puzzle: The Strategic Significance of Gate Vault
The release of Gate Vault is more than just launching a new product; it is a core pillar of Gate’s overall Web3 strategy concerning “security and trust.”
As users shift from pure centralized custody to more diverse self-custody needs, a secure, user-friendly, and seamlessly integrated self-custody solution becomes a bridge connecting the centralized and decentralized worlds.
Recently, Gate has also been continuously optimizing the fund management experience. On December 24, 2025, the platform launched automatic withdrawal and batch withdrawal features, further enhancing user experience in fund flow and operational efficiency. These automation tools, combined with security foundations like Gate Vault, form a high-efficiency and robust asset management ecosystem.
Looking at Gate’s full ecosystem, Gate Vault, along with Gate Layer 2 network, Gate Perp DEX decentralized derivatives exchange, Gate Fun on-chain launch platform, and other products, constitute a full-stack product matrix covering trading, asset management, and Web3 self-custody.
Gate Vault’s role is to provide users with a secure, autonomous starting point for exploring the broader Web3 world.
As of December 26, 2025, the asset landscape in the crypto world continues to expand rapidly. When users discover early projects via Gate Fun or track popular tokens on Meme Go, most of their core assets may be quietly stored in that digital vault employing 2-of-3 multi-signature shares.
The 48-hour delayed transfer protection of the vault acts like an invisible airlock, offering the final and most critical risk confirmation opportunity before assets leave the fortress of absolute security.
