There is a phenomenon worth noting: when we discuss when Web3 applications will truly explode, we often overlook a key bottleneck——data processing capability.

Imagine a fully on-chain short video platform with daily active users surpassing hundreds of millions. Sounds like a pipe dream? Not really. Sui and Walrus are working together to break this bottleneck.

Why is ByteDance so powerful? Ultimately, it comes down to two things: first, algorithms that can instantly process massive amounts of content based on user preferences; second, the infrastructure that supports all this operation. Currently, most public chains struggle to handle even a few NFTs, let alone "massive throughput."

What Walrus is doing may seem simple—making heavy data content like videos, music, and live streams as easy to process on-chain as text data. It may sound trivial, but the impact is profound.

What can it specifically enable? Just imagine a few scenarios. An on-chain short video platform where every like, comment, and video upload is recorded on-chain, and data assets fully belong to you. Or an on-chain MMO game where all game assets, skins, and scenes are updated in real-time, eliminating the need to download patches that are dozens of GBs large. There’s also an on-chain education platform, where course videos are stored in Walrus, and after completing a course, you can unlock the next chapter directly with an NFT certificate.

These are not castles in the air. The actual technical tools for implementation are already in developers’ hands.

While other public chains are still stacking basic applications like "on-chain yellow pages," the Sui ecosystem is already laying the foundation for "on-chain Hollywood" and "on-chain Silicon Valley." This is the gap in ecosystem evolution—it may not be immediately apparent, but once it opens up, it will be very difficult to catch up.

To be honest, I've been watching Walrus for a while, but there are very few projects that can truly bring this set of ideas to fruition. Handling video at this scale definitely changes the game, but it still depends on execution. If Sui can really open up this path, other public chains will have to consider switching.

It's been a long time coming, but finally seeing some different ideas. Data processing is truly an underestimated bottleneck. That's right, right now everyone is doing some flashy stuff, but it doesn't solve the fundamental problems at all. I need to see how Walrus actually performs; the concept sounds great, but execution is the key. I'm just worried it will turn out to be another PPT public chain—talked up loudly but nothing materializes. If a chain can really run short videos with billions of daily active users, that would be revolutionary. Honestly, compared to other projects' hype, Sui's approach is definitely heading in the right direction. But whether it can really succeed depends on whether developers buy in; having infrastructure alone isn't enough.

Honestly, Sui's combination punch is a bit fierce. Data processing is truly the real ceiling; everyone was talking about on-chain applications before, but no one mentioned this. Wait, can Walrus really run? Or is it just another round of hype around concepts? But with likes and comments being on-chain, does the data really belong to you? Or does it just sound pretty good... If this really gets implemented, other public chains might really panic. On-chain MMO without needing patches? Feels like the hype level is no less than those previous projects haha

Basically, it's the gap in infrastructure. Only with things like Walrus can we truly let loose and innovate.

It should be pointed out that the argument in this article has a fundamental flaw—confusing the gap between technical capability and market adoption. According to data from the white paper, Walrus's storage solution is elegant, but the on-chain cost structure ensures that it can never compete with centralized CDNs. ByteDance's core competitiveness is not in infrastructure but in the value consensus of algorithms and user stickiness. I've heard too many versions of the Sui ecosystem story... In 2021, someone said the same about Solana, and what happened? The gap in ecosystems doesn't "suddenly" open up; it is only ruthlessly disproved by reality.

Now it's Sui's turn to show off its muscles. If Walrus can really get off the ground, the overall pattern will indeed be different.

No way, Walrus can handle video data? I feel like it's just hype again. --- On-chain short video platforms sound good, but the key is whether anyone is actually using them. --- After all this hype, it still depends on real implementation capability. Don't become just a PPT public chain again. --- Hmm... Algorithm + infrastructure, ByteDance's approach is indeed excellent, but can Sui really replicate it? That's uncertain. --- If Walrus really works, then there's definitely an opportunity in MMO gaming. --- Basically, it's a storage bottleneck, but have they solved the cost issue? --- The idea of "Hollywood on the blockchain" sounds great, but right now there are no users at all, haha. --- Wait, once the gap in ecosystem evolution widens, can't it be caught up? Flow and Polygon have said the same. --- If Sui really delivers on data processing, other chains will be truly panicked.

To be honest, the throughput bottleneck has been overlooked for too long. Sui really has some potential this time. On-chain short videos? Live streaming? If this really takes off... ByteDance probably won't sleep well, huh. It's just that the ecosystem is still too niche right now. You need a killer app to break the circle; otherwise, no matter how good the infrastructure is, it's just tech enthusiasts' self-indulgence. It would have been better if Walrus's solution had come out earlier, otherwise we might have to wait another two or three years to see something truly impactful. Anyway, here comes another wave of "This time, really changing the world." Let's wait and see. In any case, the Sui ecosystem is worth looking forward to.
