Developed by Superheat, the Superheat H1 functions as an electric water heater that uses the heat generated by cryptocurrency mining to warm water or indoor environments.

The device integrates a Bitcoin mining module based on ASICs (application-specific integrated circuits) attached to a roughly 50-gallon water heater. During the mining process, the computer performs intensive mathematical calculations, generating heat that, instead of being dissipated, is repurposed for home heating.

According to the company, the system’s energy consumption is equivalent to that of a conventional electric heater. The difference lies in the financial return: part of the electricity cost can be offset by Bitcoin mining. Superheat states that, depending on usage conditions and the cryptocurrency’s value, the income generated can fully or partially offset the water heating expenses, which are often among the highest energy costs in a household.

The Superheat H1 is expected to cost around US$ 2,000, a price above the average for traditional electric heaters. The device is controlled via an app, which allows users to monitor water temperature and mining performance in real time.

Although the current focus is on Bitcoin mining, Superheat states that the system was designed for future applications. The company is exploring the use of the distributed computational capacity of these heaters for tasks such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence inference, creating a decentralized processing network integrated into homes and commercial buildings.
