Rank Group Leadership Transition: Richard Harris Takes Helm as Interim CEO Following John O'Reilly's Planned Departure
Rank Group Plc (RNK.L, RANKF), the London-based gaming and betting services operator, has announced a leadership transition at the executive level. Chief Executive Officer John O’Reilly will step down from his position on January 29, with Richard Harris, the company’s Chief Financial Officer, assuming interim leadership responsibilities effective January 30.
Executive Succession and Interim Leadership
The Board has designated Richard Harris as interim CEO to maintain operational continuity during the transition period. The company will initiate a comprehensive search process to identify a permanent Chief Executive to lead the organization forward. Despite his planned exit, O’Reilly—who assumed the CEO role in April 2018—has committed to assisting the business through the completion of the 2025/26 financial year, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities.
Richard Harris: Building on Proven Financial Leadership
Richard Harris joined Rank Group’s leadership team in May 2022, initially appointed as Chief Financial Officer. His tenure on the Board as an Executive Director has positioned him to step into this interim role. Prior to his appointment at Rank Group, Harris held the Chief Financial Officer position at Foxtons Group Plc and previously served in senior financial roles at both Laird Plc and Marks and Spencer Plc, bringing extensive experience in managing complex organizational finances.
O’Reilly’s Legacy and Market Positioning
John Ott, Chair of Rank Group plc, emphasized O’Reilly’s impact: “His deep knowledge of the gambling sector and operational expertise have been instrumental in establishing Rank’s competitive position. Over several decades, John has made meaningful contributions to the betting and gaming industry, shaping its evolution.”
The leadership transition underscores the company’s commitment to maintaining strategic direction while pursuing a formal recruitment process for a permanent CEO.
