Recently, I’ve been helping a content platform friend set up a storage system and realized how much decentralized storage can solve real pain points in practical applications.

Their platform has 100,000 historical reports and 30,000 video assets, all stored on centralized servers. The annual rental cost alone exceeds $20,000, and the most terrifying part is that content can be taken down at any time due to censorship, causing all accumulated assets to vanish instantly. After trying a mainstream storage solution, I found the costs to be exorbitant.

Switching to a certain storage solution, the numbers became staggering—1TB of data costs only $50 per year, which is 80% cheaper than another popular project and 98% cheaper than traditional decentralized storage solutions. Technologically, it uses a 2D erasure coding scheme, requiring only 4 to 5 times data redundancy to fully recover content even if two-thirds of the nodes are offline. This redundancy ratio is considered quite excellent in the industry.

More importantly, its censorship resistance is outstanding. All content is stored in Blob format, and each upload generates an immutable on-chain proof. Some leading media outlets are already using it for permanent archiving, completely freeing themselves from platform dependency. Access permissions are also finely controlled—precise control over who can see what. Paid content is automatically encrypted, while free reports are open for search, eliminating the need to build additional permission systems.

The long-standing problem of searchability has also been solved. Using an off-chain indexing layer, entering keywords can locate reports from years ago in seconds, three times faster than traditional databases. Imagine having instant access to tens of millions of pieces of content—what a huge improvement for content operations.

Since it is the core storage layer of a certain L1 technology stack, it can seamlessly interact with smart contracts. Content copyright revenue can be set with automatic revenue sharing rules, so creators don’t have to worry about platform deductions. As more independent media and documentary teams migrate over—reducing costs while ensuring content is permanently verifiable—the ecosystem value is expected to continue growing.

Most projects in this field talk about technological visions, but this project directly addresses the core pain points of the media industry: censorship risks and exorbitant storage costs. The decentralized content archiving track has just been filled, and with increasing demand to resist censorship, its ecosystem value is likely to keep expanding.

Over 20,000 in rental fees every year, this is really money grabbing. I never expected storage costs to be so much lower; no wonder the media are all rushing to cover it.

Whoa, saving 98% on costs? That number has me a bit stunned. I need to verify it myself before I can believe it.

Wow, $50 a year, is that real? How outrageous were those previous projects?

Whoa, 1TB for $50 a year? I have to double-check this number three times before I can believe it... Is it really 98% cheaper than Filecoin, or is this just another round of marketing hype?
