Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi involved in illegal gift-giving to lawmakers

Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi distributed “catalog gifts worth tens of thousands of yen” to Liberal Democratic Party House of Representatives members after the February 8 House of Representatives election as a “congratulatory gift for their election.” Takaichi also posted on her social media account that evening to acknowledge this matter. According to Japan’s Political Funds Control Law, it is “principally prohibited” for individuals to provide money or other donations to political figures. Therefore, opposition parties will investigate the purpose and source of funding for Takaichi Sanae’s distribution of “election gifts.” (CCTV International News)
