IT House February 13 News, after two and a half years, Sony today launched the new flagship TWS noise-canceling earbuds WF-1000XM6, along with a new color option “Sand Pink” for the over-ear noise-canceling headphones WH-1000XM6.

The Sony WF-1000XM6 Hong Kong version is priced at 2,599 HKD (IT House note: approximately 2,298 RMB at current exchange rates), with the Chinese mainland version launching in March.

Sony states that the WF-1000XM6 has further upgrades in noise cancellation, sound quality, calls, and connectivity compared to the previous WF-1000XM5, while an optimized ear-fitted design improves wearing comfort and stability.

Regarding core features, Sony emphasizes that the WF-1000XM6 offers “industry-leading noise cancellation,” capable of reducing about 25% more noise than the WF-1000XM5, with significant improvements in mid-to-high frequency noise reduction.

Sony points out that mid-to-high frequency noise is a more common interference in daily environments, so the WF-1000XM6 provides a more noticeable quiet experience in scenarios like commuting and cafes.

In terms of configuration, the XM6 is equipped with the new generation HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3e chip, allowing more precise control of multiple microphones; each earbud has four microphones, further enhancing noise cancellation compared to the previous three.

The WF-1000XM6 continues to use Sony’s Integrated Processor V2 and adds an adaptive noise cancellation optimizer. This technology can analyze external noise and wearing status in real-time more broadly, making dynamic adjustments for more stable noise cancellation.

Sony also states that the new model has optimized the gap between the ear tips and ear canal to reduce sound leakage, with real-time compensation based on different ear shapes and fit. The earbuds come with Sony Noise Isolation Earbud Tips in four sizes to fit various ear types.

In sound quality, the Sony WF-1000XM6 uses two processors working together to further enhance clarity, detail, and accuracy. Sony claims that the DAC amplifier performance improvements from the QN3e processor make each note clearer, while the Integrated Processor V2 supports 32-bit processing, offering higher resolution and richer sound compared to the previous 24-bit. The new model also features Sony’s newly developed moving coil units, with a diaphragm structure that combines different materials for the dome and edges: soft edges for enhanced bass thickness and immersion, and lightweight, rigid domes for extending high frequencies and improving clarity. Additionally, Sony has added special grooves to the edge structure to further reduce distortion and improve sound smoothness.

Functionally, the WF-1000XM6 supports Hi-Res Audio Wireless, DSEE Extreme, 360 Reality Audio, and allows custom tuning via a 10-band EQ in the Sony | Sound Connect app. It also supports head tracking and Background Music Effect. Sony emphasizes that the sound tuning was co-created with several renowned industry engineers, including Randy Merrill, Chris Gehringer, Mike Piacentini, and Michael Romanowski, aiming to deliver sound closer to the creator’s intent.

For calls, Sony claims the WF-1000XM6 offers “Sony’s best call quality,” with two microphones and bone conduction sensors on each side, utilizing AI beamforming and AI noise reduction algorithms to minimize environmental noise interference, ensuring clearer voice capture even in noisy or multi-person environments.

In terms of wearing design, Sony states that the WF-1000XM6 further conforms to the natural curves of the ear, reducing discomfort and increasing comfort for long-term wear. The new model is about 11% slimmer than the previous generation, reducing interference with complex ear contours.

Additionally, Sony has introduced a new ventilation structure to increase airflow, reducing internal noises like footsteps and chewing sounds. The appearance materials include a “smooth and refined” feel for the black version, while the platinum silver version features metal accents and glass beads for a lighter aesthetic. The charging case has been optimized for easier one-handed opening and easier removal of the earbuds.

Regarding connectivity and battery life, Sony states that the WF-1000XM6 uses more advanced algorithms and larger antennas—1.5 times the size of the previous generation—to improve connection stability. It also supports LE Audio for lower latency, making it suitable for gaming. Battery life is approximately 8 hours on a single charge, with up to 24 hours total with the charging case, and it supports Qi wireless charging.

On the AI front, Sony states that the WF-1000XM6 can work with Google Gemini, allowing users to interact via “Hey Google…”. Gemini Live enables more natural conversational interactions, such as brainstorming, adding shopping lists to Google Keep, or scheduling in Google Calendar.

In terms of environmental sustainability, Sony claims that about 25% of the plastics used in the WF-1000XM6 are recycled materials, and the packaging is plastic-free to reduce the use of virgin fossil plastics.

Pricing and release information: Sony states that the WF-1000XM6 will be available from February 2026 in black and platinum silver.

The WH-1000XM6 in the new Sand Pink color will also launch in February 2026, with a suggested retail price of 3,699 HKD (approximately 3,270 RMB at current exchange rates). It will be exclusively available at Sony Store Online before February 18, with an introductory price of 2,999 HKD (about 2,651 RMB). It will be available through authorized retail partners starting February 19.
