Oracle (NYSE: ORCL) reportedly plans to cut thousands of jobs due to cash shortages caused by large-scale AI data center expansion plans. Reports citing sources say the layoffs will affect multiple departments and could be implemented as soon as this month.

Reports indicate that sources say some layoffs will target positions expected to see reduced demand due to AI technology. Additionally, it was revealed that Oracle announced this week that it will review many open positions in its cloud division, effectively slowing or freezing the hiring process.

Last month, Oracle stated it plans to raise up to $50 billion through debt and equity financing this year. Market forecasts suggest that spending on data centers in its cloud division will lead to negative cash flow over the next few years, with returns on these investments not expected until 2030.

As of the end of May 2025, Oracle has approximately 162,000 employees worldwide.
