According to Forbes, a report released by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in 2026 shows that at least approximately 300,000 people from 66 countries worldwide have been forced to participate in online scams, with a large number of scam zones concentrated in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. Chainalysis data indicates that in 2025, global crypto scam losses amounted to about $17 billion, with long-term emotional and investment scams like "pig-butchering" increasing by approximately 40% year-over-year. The report points out that scam organizations are expanding their scale through "Fraud-as-a-Service" toolkits and AI deepfake technology, making scams more automated and globalized.
