“Tesla FSD Almost Killed Me Today”: Tesla Stock (NASDAQ:TSLA) Notches Up Despite FSD Bloopers

Abstract generation in progress

Remember a while back, when we saw a nurse who would take advantage of her commute in one of electric vehicle giant Tesla’s TSLA +1.03% ▲ cars to grab a nap, assured that the Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised system really did not need that much supervision? Well, a couple new incidents emerged that make it clear some supervision is called for. Investors were not altogether displeased, though, and gave Tesla stock a modest boost in Tuesday afternoon’s trading.

“Tesla FSD almost killed me today.” That is the assessment from Threads user Laushi Liu, who was out in his Model 3. The car approached a railroad crossing, and barriers were just coming down. But the Tesla did not seem to care. A 22-second video clip showed the Tesla driving through the barriers, though the driver did intervene, braking at about the same time as the impact.

Reports note that this is not new. FSD is notorious for missing railroad crossings in sufficient numbers that Senators Richard Blumenthal and Ed Markey called on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to investigate. And with NHTSA also waiting on Tesla’s crash data reports, that makes this issue all the more concerning.

What Do You Call the Middle of a Song?

The answer is a bridge, which is just what happened to a Cybertruck using Autopilot in Houston, reports note. Apparently, the Cybertruck in question just up and decided to drive off an overpass, which injured the driver. The part of the freeway the Cybertruck was entering was Y-shaped, and should have followed the right curve. But instead, it drove straight ahead into a concrete barrier and almost to the freeway below.

The driver attempted to intervene, but with very little time to act, could not prevent the Cybertruck from driving into the barrier. The driver suffered injuries, and is suing Tesla as a result. Given that Tesla has been marketing FSD as FSD (Supervised) for quite some time now, it remains to be seen how far the lawsuit will go.

Is Tesla a Buy, Hold or Sell?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on TSLA stock based on 13 Buys, 11 Holds, and seven Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 72.9% rally in its share price over the past year, the average TSLA price target of $399.25 per share implies 1.03% upside potential.
