Abstract generation in progress

HSBC officially launches “HSBC Teens,” a bank account designed for customers aged 11 to 17, offering most digital banking services comparable to adult accounts, aiming to help young people develop ongoing financial habits.

HSBC data shows that customers who open bank accounts before age 18 generally have higher average account balances than those who open accounts later in life. For example, among customers aged 25 to 29, the former group’s average balance is 75% higher than the latter; in the 30 to 34 age group, this figure increases to 83%.

“HSBC Teens” is specially designed for Generation Z, digital natives, with the following eligibility criteria:

  • Age between 11 and 17
  • Hold a valid Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card
  • Hold a Hong Kong Birth Certificate
  • Reside in Hong Kong at the time of application
  • Parents are existing HSBC customers and can assist with account opening via the HSBC HK App

HSBC Hong Kong Retail Banking and Wealth Management Chief Customer Officer Xu Changhong stated that in the past, children’s savings were often kept at home or managed by parents. The launch of “HSBC Teens” will establish a new savings concept for the next generation—saving digitally, using digitally, through the most convenient channels, helping them build financial independence.

Main features of “HSBC Teens”:

  • Exclusive mobile transfers: supports instant mobile transfers for daily spending and savings
  • Transaction limits: daily withdrawal and transfer limit of HKD 10,000
  • Savings in 12 currencies: supports savings and fixed deposits in 12 currencies
  • One account to grow with: can upgrade to HSBC One or Premier Banking accounts after turning 18

HSBC states that from now until May 31, 2026, opening a HSBC Teens account and re-registering for “FPS” (Faster Payment System) will enter a raffle for a chance to win an iPhone 17 Pro. Details will be announced later.
