Tech News, March 11 — Technology media MacRumors published a blog post yesterday (March 10) reporting that Sonos is launching two new speakers, the Sonos Play and Era 100 SL, to strengthen its product ecosystem and regain user trust damaged by the app redesign in 2024.

The Sonos Play is a versatile speaker designed for multiple scenarios, supporting WiFi connectivity. It can be used as a standalone device or networked with multiple units to create stereo systems.

This speaker comes with a dedicated charging dock, supporting both home and portable modes. Its full battery lasts up to 24 hours and features reverse charging, allowing it to serve as a power bank for iPhone. Additionally, the Sonos Play has an IP67 waterproof rating, making it suitable for humid environments like pools, beaches, or showers.

For connectivity outdoors, users can pair up to four Sonos Play or Move 2 speakers via Bluetooth using the Sonos Play app and synchronize playback.

The built-in Automatic Trueplay feature automatically adjusts audio settings based on the surrounding environment. The new models also fully support AirPlay 2, enabling users to stream multi-room audio within the Apple ecosystem.

IT Home notes: AirPlay 2 is Apple’s wireless streaming protocol that allows users to play audio on iOS devices and transmit it to compatible speakers or TVs, supporting synchronized multi-room playback.

The other new product, Era 100 SL, features a simpler design without a microphone and has streamlined some functions to reduce costs. It can be used independently or combined with other Sonos speakers as needed, and also supports AirPlay 2.

Both the Sonos Play and Era 100 SL are now available for pre-order on the Sonos official website and are scheduled to launch on March 31. The Sonos Play is priced at $299, while the Era 100 SL costs $189.
