Official Debunking! When You Encounter These Three Types of "Scams" Using the Digital Yuan Banner, Just Say No Directly
Beijing News Shell Finance News (Reporter Jiang Fan) The digital renminbi is gradually becoming part of daily life, offering convenient and secure payment experiences, but it has also attracted some malicious actors seeking to exploit it. On March 13, the Digital Renminbi Operation and Management Center revealed three common scams falsely claiming to be related to the digital renminbi, warning consumers to safeguard their funds.
Scheme 1: Fake promotion of “Digital Renminbi” to carry out pyramid schemes. Criminals operate under the guise of “Digital Renminbi promotion,” using high returns, exchange discounts, and similar tactics as bait to lure users into chat groups or offline meetings. Through exams, training sessions, and brainwashing activities, they induce users to recruit others and develop downlines, forming hierarchical pyramid scam networks.
The Digital Renminbi Operation and Management Center emphasizes that the digital renminbi operates under a two-tier structure: the People’s Bank of China and the Digital Renminbi Business Operation Agency, which is responsible for promotion in cooperation with participating commercial banks and financial institutions. The digital renminbi has never conducted activities such as “recruiting promoters,” “promoter exams,” “downloading codes,” or “developing downlines,” nor has it charged any installation or service fees. Any recruitment of “private promoters” through chat groups or offline and online meetings is a scam.
Scheme 2: Deception under the guise of “order brushing and rebates.” Criminals lure users to open digital renminbi wallets and transfer money to unfamiliar accounts by promising “high rebates for completing order tasks.” They initially gain trust through small rebates, but once users invest large sums, they refuse to pay rebates with excuses like “task incomplete” or “funds need to be unfrozen,” then disappear with the money.
The Digital Renminbi Operation and Management Center stresses that the digital renminbi is legal digital currency and will not participate in any form of “order brushing and rebate activities.” Legitimate promotional activities (such as shopping red envelopes, payment discounts, offline subsidies) do not require users to transfer money to strangers or induce fund transfers under the pretext of “completing tasks.”
Scheme 3:诱骗下载仿冒App窃取信息或资金。 Criminals exploit the public’s curiosity about the digital renminbi by sending false messages or posts through unofficial channels, such as “预约登记领数字人民币体验金” (appointment registration to receive digital renminbi trial funds), often with scam links attached. Users who click may be tricked into providing bank card information or downloading counterfeit apps to deposit funds, ultimately resulting in theft.
The Digital Renminbi Operation and Management Center advises downloading the official digital renminbi app through authorized channels; to receive digital renminbi shopping red envelopes, only use channels such as commercial banks, non-bank payment institutions, government platforms, legitimate e-commerce platforms, and offline stores.
