Japanese Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki said on Friday that authorities are prepared to take all necessary measures to address exchange rate issues under any circumstances, while also considering the impact of rising oil prices on people’s daily lives.

Suzuki stated that it is clear that, influenced by developments in the Middle East, financial markets, including foreign exchange, are experiencing significant fluctuations.

Suzuki declined to comment on specific exchange rates.

When asked whether foreign exchange interventions would be difficult under the current situation driven by yen depreciation and soaring oil prices, Suzuki said she was not in a position to comment.

Suzuki mentioned that Japanese authorities are maintaining very close communication with U.S. authorities, even more so than usual.
