Naguib Sawiris Claims Top Spot as Richest Man in Egypt with $9.2 Billion Fortune
In a significant shift within Egypt’s billionaire landscape, Naguib Sawiris has officially become the richest man in Egypt, accumulating a personal fortune estimated at $9.2 billion according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. This milestone marks a notable change in the country’s wealth hierarchy, as Sawiris surpasses his younger brother Nassef, whose wealth currently stands at $9.1 billion. Nassef had held the top position as Egypt’s wealthiest individual for an extended period, making this recent development particularly significant.
Extraordinary Wealth Growth Since the Year Began
The transition reflects dramatic wealth accumulation across the Sawiris family. Since the beginning of 2026, Naguib’s fortune has surged by approximately $2.3 billion, demonstrating substantial financial gains. In comparison, Nassef’s wealth increased by $413 million during the same period—a significant amount in absolute terms, but considerably less than his older brother’s expansion. This divergence in wealth growth rates has directly contributed to the reversal in their relative positions.
Weekly Volatility in Billionaire Rankings
The volatility of ultra-high net worth individuals’ fortunes became evident through recent weekly fluctuations. During the previous week, Naguib’s wealth rose by $42 million, while Nassef experienced a decline of approximately $47 million in his net worth. These movements highlight the dynamic nature of wealth for billionaires at this scale, where market conditions and business performance can produce rapid swings in their financial standing. The combined effect of these ongoing changes has solidified Naguib Sawiris’s position as the richest man in Egypt’s current economic landscape.
