China Won't Assist in Strait of Hormuz Escorts, Trump Won't Visit China? Foreign Ministry Responds
Trump Calls for Formation of Strait of Hormuz Escort Alliance; Foreign Ministry: Urges All Parties to Immediately Cease Military Actions
On March 16, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian held a routine press conference. Anadolou News Agency reporter asked whether U.S. President Trump is currently negotiating with seven countries to form an alliance responsible for escorting ships through the Strait of Hormuz, with an announcement expected as early as this week. Trump stated on his social media that Japan, South Korea, the UK, and other countries hope to send ships to the region. What is China’s comment on this? How will China respond to the U.S. president’s call on this matter?
Lin Jian said that the recent situation in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding waters is tense, impacting international cargo and energy trade routes, and undermining regional and global peace and stability. China once again urges all parties to immediately stop military actions, avoid further escalation of tensions, prevent regional instability, and minimize impacts on global economic development.
The reporter asked whether China has received any requests from the U.S. regarding the aforementioned “alliance.”
“I just answered that I have no further information to provide,” Lin Jian replied.
