GateToken (GT) is the native utility token of the Gate.io exchange and the GateChain public blockchain. It serves multiple functions within the Gate.io ecosystem, including trading fee discounts, early access to token sales, and participation in governance decisions. Additionally, GT is used for transaction fees and staking rewards on GateChain, which employs a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
The tokenomics of GT are designed to support its utility and value within the ecosystem. Initially, 1 billion GT tokens were issued, but 700 million were subsequently burned to reduce the total supply to 300 million tokens. This deflationary approach is further supported by a token-burning mechanism, where Gate.io uses a portion of its profits to repurchase and burn GT tokens from the market, aiming to enhance the token's value over time.
