Ripple Labs has received important authorization from the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to significantly expand its payment operations in the region. The company's Singapore branch, Ripple Markets APAC, has been granted the ability to expand its regulated payment operations under the existing Main Payment Institution license (MPI), confirming its strategic commitment to the APAC region.
Ripple's chairwoman, Monica Long, praised Singapore's pioneering approach, noting that the expanded licensing reinforces Ripple's ability to invest in and develop the necessary infrastructure for financial institutions. Ripple Payments utilizes digital payment tokens, including the stablecoin RLUSD and XRP (XRP), to facilitate efficient, fast, and secure cross-border remittance transactions. This service acts as a comprehensive solution for deposits and withdrawals, supporting the collection, holding, swapping, and distribution of funds for banks and corporations.
Having operated in Singapore since 2017, this country is very important for Ripple's global strategy, especially considering the strong growth in cryptocurrency adoption in the Asia-Pacific region, which reached 2.36 trillion USD, a 69% increase compared to the previous year, according to Chainalysis. With an expanded license, Ripple is now in a better position to support this growth by providing a comprehensive suite of regulated payment services, aiming for faster and more efficient payments for its customers.
