The DEX itself is a Contract Account—sophisticated code that can manage swaps but cannot act independently. Your EOA sends the transaction initiating the trade; the DEX’s smart contract then executes the swap according to its programming. Without your EOA’s command, the DEX simply sits idle.

This relationship defines Ethereum’s operational model: CAs provide the automated services, but EOAs provide the spark that gets everything started.

The Centrality of Private Key Security

The most critical aspect of maintaining an EOA is protecting your private key with absolute vigilance. Lose this key, and you lose permanent access to your account—there’s no recovery mechanism or customer service to restore it. Share this key or fall victim to theft, and someone else becomes the effective owner of your account, potentially draining all your holdings.
