Ryder System Embarks on Leadership Transition as Robert Sanchez Steps Down in 2026

Ryder System, Inc. ®, a major player in logistics and transportation, has unveiled a strategic succession plan following its board’s approval. The company’s current President and Chief Operating Officer, John Diez, will step into the CEO role effective March 31, 2026, while Robert Sanchez concludes his tenure as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman.

Career Arc of John Diez Positions Him for the Top Role

John Diez’s appointment reflects his extensive track record within the organization. Since joining Ryder in 2002, Diez has navigated multiple leadership positions across the company’s portfolio. He previously served as executive vice president and chief financial officer, where he oversaw all financial operations. His career progression then took him to lead Ryder’s fleet management division, directing fleet operations and maintenance efforts. Most recently, he helmed the dedicated transportation business unit, delivering notable revenue expansion and enhanced operational returns.

In his current capacity since January 1, 2025, Diez has held responsibility for all three primary business divisions: Fleet Management Solutions (FMS), Supply Chain Solutions (SCS), and Dedicated Transportation Solutions (DTS). His board election is also effective March 31, 2026.

Robert Sanchez’s Leadership Legacy and Transition Role

Robert Sanchez, who ascended to the CEO position in January 2013 and became board chairman in May 2013, will transition to executive chair following his retirement. This arrangement aims to facilitate continuity during the leadership changeover. Before his executive roles at Ryder, Sanchez’s professional foundation included experience in audit services at KPMG LLP.
