Spain’s defense establishment has entrusted Airbus Defense and Space and Indra Group with designing the next generation of signals intelligence capabilities for the Spanish Air and Space Force. The collaborative initiative centers on a conceptual definition phase spanning 18 months, during which the partners will evaluate and architect an integrated SIGINT solution aligned with the country’s strategic requirements.
The project scope encompasses identifying the optimal aircraft platform and corresponding signals intelligence infrastructure needed to fulfill the Spanish Armed Forces’ operational priorities. The envisioned system will enable detection, tracking, classification, and identification of targets relevant to national security interests across three-aircraft configurations. Through this engagement, Airbus Defense and Space and Indra will develop technical specifications that address Spain’s unique operational and geographical circumstances.
Following the completion of the conceptual phase, Airbus Defense and Space anticipates advancing to the implementation stage, where the company plans to undertake necessary system integration and industrialization of the signals intelligence architecture developed by Indra. This phased approach allows for comprehensive validation before committing to full-scale production modifications.
The contract award underscores the strategic importance of indigenous defense capabilities within Europe. Both organizations bring complementary expertise: Airbus Defense and Space’s platform integration capabilities combined with Indra’s signals intelligence specialization creates a robust foundation for delivering cutting-edge SIGINT technology tailored to Spain’s requirements.
On the financial markets, Airbus SE (AIR.PA) shares demonstrated positive momentum, trading at 197.26 EUR representing a 0.64% gain during Paris Stock Exchange trading.
