BlockBeats News - On January 6th, according to CoinDesk, Buck Labs launched the crypto token BUCK, positioned as a “Savings Coin” for non-US users, focusing on providing passive yields for dollar-denominated crypto assets rather than traditional stablecoins.
BUCK is priced initially at 1 USD with no hard USD peg, with prices fluctuating with market conditions. Its yields come indirectly from Strategy (MSTR) related assets: the Buck Foundation holds STRC perpetual preferred shares linked to Bitcoin, which pays periodic returns to the treasury for distribution to BUCK holders, with a current annualized target of approximately 7%, accruing by the minute.
Buck Labs emphasizes that Michael Saylor and Strategy have not participated in, sponsored, or endorsed this project. BUCK adopts a governance token structure, allowing holders to participate in governance votes including yield distribution, and the company states it is not issued as a security. BUCK aims to supplement rather than replace stablecoins, targeting users seeking relatively predictable crypto yields but unwilling to trade frequently.
