On September 26, Jin10 reported that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in a media interview that “superintelligence” may emerge by the end of this century. When asked when superintelligence, which is smarter than humans in all aspects, would appear, Altman said: “I expect the trajectory of AI capability enhancement to remain extremely steep. In a few years, AI will likely be able to make some scientific discoveries that humans cannot complete alone. For me, that will start to feel appropriately referred to as superintelligence. It is difficult to predict exactly which year or month it will happen. But I would definitely say that by the end of this decade, which is before 2030, I would be very surprised if we do not have those extremely powerful models that can accomplish things we cannot do ourselves.”
