什么是 Optimism Bedrock 升级
Optimism is a second-layer solution for Ethereum. It operates on the Ethereum blockchain by bundling many transactions and submitting them as a single transaction to achieve faster and cheaper transactions. This technology is called Optimistic Rollup.
The Bedrock upgrade is a major update to Optimism, scheduled for June 6, 2023, at 16:00 UTC. It is a hard fork triggered by a timestamp rather than block number.
During the upgrade, the OP mainnet will be offline for 2-4 hours. During the downtime, transactions, deposits, and withdrawals will be paused, and the OP mainnet chain will not produce blocks. Ordinary users do not need to take any actions related to the upgrade, except planning for the 2-4 hour downtime.
The Bedrock upgrade will improve the scalability, security, and flexibility of Optimism. Its main advantages include:
Lower Costs
Bedrock optimizes data compression strategies to minimize data costs. It also removes all L1 execution gas, reducing L1 data fees to the theoretical minimum. The Optimism team estimates that the upgrade will reduce gas fees by 47%.
Shorter Deposit Times
Bedrock introduces support for L1 re-orgs in node software, reducing the time users wait for deposit confirmations from up to 10 minutes to within 3 minutes.
Proof Modularization
Bedrock separates the proof system from the OP Stack so that Layer 2s using the OP Stack can employ fault proof (Optimistic Rollup) or validity proof (ZK Rollup, e.g., zk-SNARK) to verify transaction correctness.
Improved Node Performance
Bedrock changes block production from “producing a new block for each transaction” to “producing a new block every two minutes,” allowing Merkle tree updates to be amortized across multiple transactions and improving node performance. After the upgrade, a private Mempool will host pending transactions, eliminating concerns about MEV.
Enhanced EVM Compatibility
From the start of Bedrock’s design, Optimism aimed to make it as close to Ethereum as possible. Several deviations from EVM in previous versions of the OP mainnet have been removed, including:
One transaction producing one block.
Custom opcodes for obtaining L1 block information.
Separate L1/L2 fee fields in the JSON-RPC API.
Custom ERC-20 display of ETH balance.
Bedrock also supports EIP-1559, chain reorganization, and other Ethereum features on L1.
