Golden Ten Data, June 11, the German Statistics Office reported on Wednesday that between 2021 and 2024, Germany’s imports of goods from Russia fell by 95%, and exports of goods to Russia decreased by 72%. Statistics Germany added that the EU’s overall merchandise imports to Russia fell by 78% and exports by 65% over the same period, with a trade deficit of 4.5 billion euros in 2024, well below the 147.5 billion euros in 2022. The main reason why imports continue to be higher than exports in 2024 is that the European Union continues to import large quantities of oil and gas from Russia, the statistics office reads. Although Russia has not been subject to tariffs imposed by Trump, Russia’s trade with the United States and the European Union has fallen sharply due to sanctions related to the Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but Russia’s economy has performed better than expected in the three years since the war began. However, for some time now, falling oil prices and declining fiscal revenues have continued to pose a problem for Russia.
