Solana’s core developers have introduced a major proposal, Alpenglow (SIMD-0326), to overhaul the network’s consensus mechanism. It replaces the current Proof-of-History and TowerBFT protocols with a new system called Votor, promising significantly faster block finalization—down to 100–150 milliseconds—and reduced latency.
