Google Allows Developers to Offer NFT Games on Play Store - Tokenhell
Google has taken a big leap forward in terms of Web3 development. The tech giant has recently allowed developers to upload and offer NFT gaming applications on its Play Store
With the latest changes, Google has lifted the ban on Play Store that it imposed on crypto mining applications back in 2018. In another similar incident, Google removed the crypto gaming app ‘Bitcoin Blast’ in 2020 citing deceptive gaming practices.
Joseph Mills, product manager at Google Play recently updated a new blog post on the matter. He shared updated guidelines for developers concerning NFT gaming apps. The platform updated its terms of service for Play Store this month on the 12th.
The latest changes taking place on Google are part of its vision to improve user experience with crypto and blockchain content inclusion.
Google Plans to Incentivize Users with NFT Rewards
Google Play store has changed its previous stance towards crypto-related publications on the platform Under the new directive of the leading search engine services provider, millions of Google consumers can now access NFT-related games, content, and applications.
On the other hand, Apple has started to crack down on everything crypto. Google’s biggest rival Apple Inc. reportedly updated its app store policies last year in October.
The tech company has decreed that NFTs hailing from foreign resources cannot offer special gaming benefits. Only NFT gaming applications fairing on Apple Store may offer rewards. As per the Apple Store policy, any applications found in violation of the given rules afford the risk of banishment.
At the same time, all NFTs sold under Apple Store are subjected to a 30% sales commission payable to Apple Inc. The pushback towards Apple gaming services at Apple was viewed as a way to curb mobile-based NFT gaming applications.
Google’s New Policy to Capture NFT Gaming Application Market Share
All NFT gaming applications that Apple Inc. delisted may now apply for a listing at Google Play Store. The new policies of Google allow NFT game developers to reach millions of Android user-base around the globe. However, Google has conditioned the listing of NFT game applications under its terms of service policies.
Mills has highlighted one important rule that developers must follow in his latest blog. He shared that Google has mandated transparency for the developers concerning the sales and trading of NFTs.
At the same time, game developers have to portray a realistic review of the earning potential of their play-to-earn applications. The updated policies of Google not only warrant the development of the NFT gaming sector but also warrants security for consumers.
In the near term, a barrage of new NFT and crypto app listings has become a stronger probability on Google Play Store under its latest policy amendments.
